1. It's 17 days until Christmas. How do you feel about that?
Well I'm an atheist (ish) so I don't feel super strongly about Christmas in and of itself. I do feel relentlessly owned by the passage of time, since "nearly Christmas" does also mean "nearly the end of the year".
2. It's the second night of Hanukkah. How do you feel about that?
We went to a thing yesterday where they lit a candle for the first night. That was nice.
3. It's Howie Hawkins's birthday. Have you wished him a happy birthday yet?
I don't know who that is. *websearch* Environmentalist socialist, cool. Anti-nuclear, less cool, but nobody's 100% right about everything. 🍰 for the guy.
4. John Lennon died on this date in 1980. Your reaction?
That was a decade before I was born... I didn't know John Lennon died before I was born <.< I assumed he had been alive for some amount of time in my life. Cause. Beatles. *shrug* I didn't say the logic made sense.
5. Beethoven's 7th Symphony premiered in Vienna with Beethoven conducting, on this day in 1813. Can you hum any part of the 7th?
Uhhhhh let's find out, I don't immediately know which one that is.
Well. I probably haven't listened to it casually. But let me just pause this draft for 42 minutes to see if I recognize it.
*42 minutes later* ... what, did you think I was joking? I actually paused to listen to it while I fed the cat and did some work. Conclusion: Yeah I'd never heard that before. I probably won't listen to it again specifically but if I ever decide that I need a playlist of classical music I'll be including this.

Date: 2023-12-09 08:50 am (UTC)As for Beethoven, it pops up in a lot of shows and movies, surprisingly.
Thanks for sharing your post. I enjoyed reading.
